All countries in the Mediterranean region are concerned for water conservation and fair distribution. This gives rise to a common approach to face the challenges posed by the problems of water resource management and more precisely, related modes and frameworks of governance.
The Mediterranean water community mobilizes to participate actively and to build a regional voice in the process of the 8th World Water Forum in Brasilia.
Initiated in 2011 in Marrakech, the Mediterranean Water Forum, efficient platform for dialogue and exchange between all stakeholders in the region, aims to strengthen the cooperation and knowledge and experience exchange in water field.
Milestone along the preparation of the Mediterranean Region participation in the 8th World Water Forum, the 3rd edition of the Mediterranean Water Forum will be held on 22 and 24 January 2018 in Cairo. This event is organized by the National Water Research Center and the coordinators of the Mediterranean Process, the Institut Méditerranéen de l’Eau and the Secretariat of the Union for the Mediterranean.
The 3rd Mediterranean Water Forum will gather the Mediterranean Water Community to discuss and debate on regional priorities through panels and working groups. Six main topics linked with the Thematic Framework of the 8th World Water Forum have been held to prepare the regional sessions in Brazil: 1. Water and climate change mitigation, 2. Integrated sanitation for all, 3. Water/ Energy/Food/Ecosystems Nexus, 4. Reuse and its impacts, 5. Natural and engineering hydrological systems and 6. Finance for sustainable development.
The Mediterranean Water Forum will ensure that the regional process contributes to raise water issues high on the agenda of leaders and promote dialogues and exchanges of experiences on policies and solutions to increase water security.
The programme will also include a regional Exhibition presenting the Mediterranean experience on water field and side events organized with the scope of the 3rd Mediterranean Water Forum objectives.
