The Association of European Renewable Energy Research Centres - Belgium

EUREC is the association of European Renewable Energy Research Centres. Created in 1991 and located in Brussels, its mission is to promote and support the development of innovative technologies and human resources to enable a prompt transition towards a sustainable energy system.  EUREC members are prominent research and development R&D groups spread across Europe, operating in all renewable energy technologies (wind, biomass, small hydro, marine, geothermal, photovoltaics, solar thermal electricity, and solar thermal heating and cooling). Our members also conduct research into supporting technologies such as energy efficiency, storage, distribution and integration, and undertake studies to evaluate the social and economic aspects surrounding renewable energy.  Currently composed of 41 members coming from 16 different European countries, EUREC’ activities focus on four areas of interest:

  • Project development and dissemination. EUREC has extensive experience in the management of European co-funded projects (e.g. SecRHC-Platform), actively participating also in communication, dissemination (e.g. InteSusAl, CAPTure, EUROSUNMED) and training (ETRERA2020) activities
  • Education and Training. Since 2002, EUREC has been coordinating the European Master in Renewable Energy, which is taught in seven countries across Europe. EUREC is currently supporting its members in setting up a new European Master course in on Sustainable Energy Systems Management, and is being involved in the preparation of a Master focusing on Sustainable Energy and Society
  • EUREC is also experienced in the organisation of expert workshops for the members of the association. These events happen twice per year as part of the EUREC College of Members. Recent workshops have covered topics such as the cooperation with MENA countries in the area of renewable energy and its cost competitiveness.
  • Policy inputs. Definition of common positions related to policy dossiers of interest to the renewable energy research community
